If Walls Could Talk (Why Feeling Stuck Is Not Always A Bad Thing)
No, today I’m talking about feeling stuck while trying to achieve your goal. And the reason why I am choosing this subject is that until recently, I was feeling stuck myself.
So let’s say you’ve picked you big shiny goal, made a super detailed plan and started heroically on your way to achieving it. Things go well for awhile, and you’re encouraged by the success. Then all of a sudden – bang! You reached the end of the road. There is nowhere to go because right there, staring at you, there’s a massive wall.
How do you feel when you reached the wall? What, I hear you say, that’s a stupid question? Bear with me for a moment. Because the answer to this question can give you a glimpse into something interesting.
So I’m asking again: what do you feel when you reach the wall? Do you feel frustrated or annoyed that you can’t go on? Or do you feel relieved you have finally found an excuse to abandon the quest?
See where I’m going with this? There’s a world of difference between the two answers.
If your answer is the first of the two, you’ll always find the will and means to either break through or climb up the wall. Or maybe you will track back your steps and find a way around it. Because, as Joe Vitale said, a goal should scare you a little and excite you A LOT.
If your answer is the second one, it may be a good time to wonder why did you start the whole quest after all. Is this something you want to pursue for yourself or for the sake of others? Is it worth pursuing it or will you regret your achievement because of the sacrifices you need to make? Is this shiny goal of yours something you genuinely WANT to achieve or is it just something you think you SHOULD achieve?
Being stuck is not always a bad thing. Maybe you needed something to force you to stop and think things over.
If walls could talk, what would they say? If at this point in your life you’ve reached one, take a little bit of time and listen.
What sort of fears is it whispering about?
What self-imposed rules and limitations keep those bricks together?
What valuable lessons can we learn before we could move on? What changes are we resisting?
And what would it take to create a breakthrough?
If there were such a possibility, would you take it?
